Delta (ongoing series)

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges we face today. The consequences are profound, especially for areas and people who are less fortunate than in The rich Western world. Climate change also shows how unequally and unfairly wealth is distributed in the world.

With the ongoing series 'Delta', I see how we humans deal with water, the water that gives us everything and now simultaneously poses a threat.

The relationship between man and nature. It seems to me a "Don Quixote-like" battle; we humans go on, we build, we work, we create our public spaces at the expense of nature. But in the end, we will surely lose the battle. The elemental, pure forces of nature just go on stoically. You can see this clearly in the places where human attention has waned. The word we use for this is decay but in my opinion it is more like a (natural) correction. I see strength and beauty in it. I often find a kind of sense of eternity in it that gives me peace. It gives me meaning and I want to pass that on as a photographer.

Delta (doorlopende serie)

Klimaatverandering is een van de grootste uitdagingen waar we momenteel voor staan. De gevolgen zijn groot, vooral voor mensen die minder bedeeld zijn. Klimaatverandering laat ook zien hoe ongelijk en oneerlijk de welvaart in de wereld is verdeeld.
Met de doorlopende serie 'Delta' zie ik hoe wij mensen omgaan met water, het water dat ons alles geeft en nu tegelijkertijd een bedreiging vormt.

De relatie tussen mens en natuur. Het lijkt mij een "Don Quichot-achtige" strijd; wij mensen gaan door, we bouwen, we werken, we creëren onze openbare ruimte ten koste van de natuur. Maar uiteindelijk zullen we de strijd zeker verliezen. De elementaire, pure krachten van de natuur gaan stoïcijns hun gang. Dat kun je duidelijk zien op de plekken waar de menselijke aandacht is afgenomen. Het woord dat we daarvoor gebruiken is verval maar volgens mij is het meer een soort correctie.

Ik zie er ook kracht en schoonheid in. Ik vind er vaak een soort gevoel van eeuwigheid in dat me rust geeft.
