Shaban Family
Shaban Family
At the beginning of 2017 I came in contact with Fuad Shaban, a refugee from Syria. Together with many other fathers, Fuad had crossed the Mediterranean Sea in a rubber boat to find a new life for his family elsewhere. A life-threatening journey. He finally reached the Netherlands.
During a meal organized by the municipality, Fuad told me how difficult it was to leave his children and wife behind. It was a time when cities like Aleppo were bombed daily. He showed me many pictures of his family. In January 2018 he managed to get them to the Netherlands. His children can now go to school safely and work on their future. His wife misses Syria, especially her sisters and mother who still live there.
